A boroscope also known as bore scope or borescope, is an optical probe being used by a lot of home inspectors. This device helps them inspect a portion of a wall for mold while at the same time it allows them to do so without any major damage. In a nutshell, a borescope is simply a tool used for inspection work. Inspectors use this gadget when they can't access the area by other means. So how can this tiny boroscope know that? What is it made of? This device is made up of a rigid tube that comes with an eyepiece on one end. The other end has an objective lens. What connects them is a flexible relay optical system. The rigid borescope has a lot of optical fibers that help in illuminating the remote object. Aside from that, a protective sheath gets these optical fibers together and protects it. These fiber optic scopes allow the viewer to see the internal image. The fiber optics illuminates the remote object being inspected and the objective lens relays it to the eye piece.
Now that we know a lot more about borescopes, let’s talk about the various types. There are the rigid types that are not as flexible but in a way, similar, to a fiberscope. The rigid ones are among the most affordable ones without compromising the quality. In fact, they offer superior quality and are mostly used in automotive inspections such as checking cylinders, fuel injectors and even manifolds. Now if you want to use it with a video, you may add in a coupler lens to your eyepiece. This will allow you to connect it to a camera such as a CCD through a computer USB port in order to view it on screen.
On the other hand, there is also the other type used in the human body. The device used to inspect the human body is called the endoscope. Aside from using it in the human body, cars, and walls, these devices may also be used in other vehicles such as in truck engines, diesel engines, as well as gas and steam turbines. It is also used in the law enforcement for forensic applications, but it is most commonly used in building inspection. Thus the scopes used for walls.
