Olympus Borescope, A Tool For Every Job
Olympus borescope is a large umbrella term for an impressive array of borescope and other fiber optic scopes. The list of products is extensive and the number of applications they have is nearly endless. No matter what the job, they make an Olympus borescope to do it.
The whole Olympus borescope line revolves around the simple principal of fiber optics. The fiber optics carry light outside of a direct line of site. Since an image seen is simply a reflection of light it allows you to see around corners. Add to that a display and it can enlarge the image as well. One are that is surprising to find them is in law enforcement. In the current atmosphere of terrorism they are being used for bomb detection because they need only a small hole to enter verses opening a package and setting off a potential device. This means it also has important military applications for the same purposes. They are also used by Customs, the Coast guard, and other agencies of law enforcement to search for contraband in otherwise hidden areas.
This does not mean it does not have many civil uses. The use of a video borescope or flexible borescope can find damage in infrastructure long before it becomes a danger. This is particularly true in area that have experienced earthquakes or flood the might have caused unseen damage that, left unimpaired, lead to failure at a later time.
With all these applications, borescopes like Olympus series 5 are still the work horse and made to do the industrial jobs. Inspection of hard to reach places like obscured area of machinery and inside of cylinders and such were originally what they where made fore. Because of that they have a high tolerance for getting dirty and wet with various oils and fluids as well as water. In addition, they also have high heat tolerances for working in industrial settings while continually working fine.
